Scenes of winter railroading don't always have to include photographs of the trains themselves. I spotted this crossing gate on a residential street on the east side of Commons Park in west suburban North Riverside Illinois. This railroad crossing signal constantly spends time in the worst of weather conditions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Icycles have formed on the flashing lights and visors, as another Chicago winter snowstorm has passed through town.
