I took this photo on Chicago's southwest side, in October of 1983. Seen here on a yard siding track along the northside of West 51st Street, are two transfer cabooses from the Grand Trunk Western Railroad. Elsdon Yard, was a busy 14 track steam era railroad freight yard in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood. Elsdon Yard was in it's final week of operation when I took this photo way back in October of 1983.Transfer cabooses like these, were used on transfer trains and on switching locals.
