Fairyland Amusement Park. Lyons Illinois. 1974.
The Fairlyland Amusement Park was located along the west side of South Harlem Avenue (Old U.S Rt # 66) and West 40th Street in West suburban Lyons Illinois, and was in business from 1938 until 1978. I visited the Fairyland Amusement Park a small number of times with my own family from 1971 until 1975 when I was growing up. Chicago had many of these little seasonal family owned and operated amusement parks during the 1950's and 60's era. Many of these were refered to as "Kiddie Lands". Most of these were located outise of the city, in the surrounding suburban towns. Most of these had closed before the 1970's were over, and are now the site of outdoor suburban retail strip malls.
