An early 1950's era scene from the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph last week Wednsday night, at the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers,H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.
You may never know what to expect viewing the club's huge layout on any givenn visit, which is why I bring my camera on most of my visits.
A pleasant surprise at this particular operating session, was this unplanned two train meet of vintage equipment, from the former Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad.
I was operating my Bachman Alco S 4 yard switcher wearingthe 1950's era Santa Fe "Zebra Stripe" color scheme, with a plain brown Athearn pre 1966 era Santa Fe cabose and cars. Fellow club member Charles, was operating his IHC model of a Santa Fe Baldwin 4-8-2 steam locomotive as well.
Charles was waiting for clearance to back his locomotive in to the rear staging yard, while my train representing a 1950's era Santa Fe switching local passes by in the foreground.
This was definately a scene out of the early 1950's, as the Santa Fe was phasing out steam engines, and replacing them with diesels wearing the color scheme shown on my engine.
Thank you Charles for making this vintage Santa Fe two train meet possible last week.
Eddie K.
