ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) - Last Train To London

One of My favorite Brittish Rock and Roll music groups I grew up with as a teenager during the 1970's, was Electric Light Orchestra.

One of their albums I had on vinyl that I had played a lot on My stereo, was their Discovery album from 1979.

In keeping with the railroad theme of Eddie's Railfan Page, heres the album song "Last Train To london" from E.L.O

Union Pacific RR maintenance crew inspecting Metra commuter coaches. Chicago Illinois. October 2006.

I took this photo one lovely Autum morning back in October of 2006.

We are looking south from the former Milwaukee Road Metra commuter rail station at Western Avenue. Two different Metra commuter coach yard and maintenance facilities are just across from each other at this location.

Western Avenue is a junction point where the Milwaukee Road and the Chicago & Northwestern Railroads had operated side by side from downtown Chicago, and parted seperate ways here at Western Avenue in pre Metra days.

The coach yard to the immediate south today is owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad, but was originally a Chicago & NorthWestern facility. The coach yard and maintenance facility immediately to the north, was originally a Milwaukee Road facility.

A Union Pacific maintenance dept crew, is viewed at work giving the commuter coaches an inspection at the former Chicago & Northwestern facility.

A message from Eddie K, Your host and photographer here at Eddie'sRailfan Page.

Hello everyone.

For those who did not recieve the message....
On Monday morning, November 15th, 2010 at approximately 5:20 AM, I was seriously injured in an early morning auto accident enroute to My work. I was traansported by the paramedics of the Chicago Fire Department to nearby Ressurection Hospital where I had spent two days.

X Rays revieled that I had sustained four fractured ribs and a small hole in My left lung.

I am resting and gradually recovering at home, and I am making progress along the way as well.

I wish to extend a very special thank You, for all of those "Get Well Soon" E-Mails and words of support from all of My caring readers.

Thanks everyone.

Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever

One of My personal favorites amongst the many music groups I had grown up with, was none other than The Beatles.

This legendary 1960's era band from Liverpool England, lead the Brittish Invasion, and paved the way for many of England's future music acts. They completely changed the way We listened to music in 1967, when their Psychodelic album Sergent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band hit the charts.

If there was any number One favorite railroad of the many I had grown up with in Chicago Illinois, My personal vote would proboubly be the old Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe serviced the factories in My old neighborhood five days a week on what was once the Illinois Northern Railroad. I lived just a few miles north of the Santa Fe Corwith Yard, and spotted many Santa Fe transfer trains while I attended Curie High School from a classroom window or two daily. The Santa Fe O' Scale model railroad exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, plus My now vaque childhood recollections of the Santa Fe passenger trains from pre Amtrak times with their red and silver passenger diesel locomotives traveling alng the northside of the Illinois U.S Route I -55 Stevenson Expressway, helped to secure a life long bond with the Santa Fe.

Aside from My personal memories, the collection of former Santa Fe equipment at the Illinois Railway Museum in the town of Union Illinois www.irm.org, helps to keep the legacy of this proud North American fallen flag railroad alive for all to enjoy.

Yes. I loved the Santa Fe.

Thanks.
Eddie K.

Lionel Richie - All Night Long

One of My all time favorite songs from the early 1980's that always seems to put Me in a good mood, is the 1983 classic " All Night Long" from former Commadores lead vocalist Lionel Ritchie.
Good music and happy memories have helped Me through some of the toughest times I have had to face in the past.

There is nothing like going out for a nice hot coffee and a slice of fresh pie on the side. Sometimes just getting together with friends for a dinner outing here can be fun as well.

May 1990 Central Electric Railfans association Chartered fantrip on the Metra ( ex Illinois Central) electric commuter lines. Chicago Illinois.

during the 1980's and 1990's, I rode aboard several chartered railfan excursions in the greater Chicagoland area.

This photo was taken aboard a May 1990 Central Electric Railfan Association fantrip over the Metra ex Illinois Central electric powered commuter lines that services Chicago's south suburbs.

One of My happy memories from My early railfanning days during the 1980's, was photographing the many Burlington Northern trains passing through west suburban La Grange Illinois during the wintertime.

I took this photo way bak in January of 1987. We are facing east, just west of Brainard Avenue from the parking lot at Lyons Township High School in La Grange.
The three track Chicago to Aurora Burlington Northern mainline always seemed to have a high volume of train traffic at any given time during My visits.

Westbound City of Evanston Department of Public Works Ford dump truck. Glenview Illinois. Early November 2010.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

I have been a life long fan of transportation subjects, including the many specialized vechicles used by the various public works departments and city municipalities.

I spotted this westbound City of Evanston Illinois Department of Public Works Ford dump truck recently, as I was returning back to work from My lunch break.

This view is facing north at the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Golf Road in north suburban Glenview Illinois. Seasinal Autum foliage and bright sunshine helped to make for a very nice photograph.

Remembering Chicago's Kiddieland Amusement Park. 1928 -2009. The offseason back in November of 2006.

One place that I held very dearly to My heart like many of My fellow Chicagoans, was none other than Chicago's Kiddieland Amusement Park in near northwest suburban Melrose Park Illinois.

I knew since at least the early 1990's, that Kiddieland was definately living on borrowed time. I made it a point to take as many pictures as I could during the parks last few seasons in operation.

I took this photo during a clear and unusually sunny November morning back in 2006. The park had just closed for the season a week or so before, and all of the rides were either disassembled, or locked inside the buildings that housed some of them, that were now closed for the upcoming winter season.

This is how the northeast corner location of North and 1st Avenues in Melrose Park used to look like until recently. Kiddieland closed for good on Sunday, September 27th, 2009.

A large Costco strore has since been erected here.
