Union Pacific RR maintenance crew inspecting Metra commuter coaches. Chicago Illinois. October 2006.

I took this photo one lovely Autum morning back in October of 2006.

We are looking south from the former Milwaukee Road Metra commuter rail station at Western Avenue. Two different Metra commuter coach yard and maintenance facilities are just across from each other at this location.

Western Avenue is a junction point where the Milwaukee Road and the Chicago & Northwestern Railroads had operated side by side from downtown Chicago, and parted seperate ways here at Western Avenue in pre Metra days.

The coach yard to the immediate south today is owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad, but was originally a Chicago & NorthWestern facility. The coach yard and maintenance facility immediately to the north, was originally a Milwaukee Road facility.

A Union Pacific maintenance dept crew, is viewed at work giving the commuter coaches an inspection at the former Chicago & Northwestern facility.
