Chicago, South Shore & South Bend RR electric M.U coach at the former Randolph Street Station. ( Gone / Relocated underground.) Chicago Illinois. June 1988.

I took this photo way back in June of 1988.

Has it actually been twenty three years already since I took this?

The downtown Chicago train station formerly known as the Randolph Street Station, was located below street leval, in an open area alongside Chicago's Grant Park near the lakefront. This depot was served by the electric interurban trains of the Chicago, South Shore And South Bend electric railroad, and electric suburban commuter trains from the three Metra ex Illinois Central Railroad electrified lines, that served Chicago's south suburbs.

During the late 1990's and early 2000's, the station site was redeveloped and the trains moved underground. Today, this is now Chicago's Milenium Park station.

When I took this photo back in 1988, "New" concrete platforms and steel canopies were recently constructed and placed in service. These had replaced decades old wooden platforms.
