The Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad's Illinois Northern branchline switching local. Chicago Illinois. March 1986., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
One railroad operation I litterally grew up with in the city of Chicago Illinois many years ago, was the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe railroad's Illinois Northern / I.N industrial branchline.
I grew up in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood during the 1960's and 70's. This little six mile industrial branchline, served the once many factories in My old neighborhood.
Santa Fe operated the branchline switching local train on this line 5 days a week, from Monday thru Friday. Today, this line is up for abandonement under succesor railroad BNSF Railway, as there is too little on line traffic to support railroad operations.
