A southbound Grand Trunk Western caboose hop departing the former GTW Elsdon Yard site. Chicago Illinois. June 1984.

I took this photo way back in June of 1984.

The former Grand Trunk Western Railroad, had recently closed their Elsdon Yard facility along West 51st Street for good the previous October.

For a few years after the fact, the GTW actually did a small portion of business at the former Elsdon Yard site, in the form of a small makeshift locomotive and crew terminal operation along the north side of West 51st Street.

This former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton EMD roadswitcher acquired through merger by the GTW in 1981, is viewed departing the Elsdon Yard site as a southbound caboose hop.

The light colored building behind the locomotive, is the now long demolished Baca's Cook Shop And Bar.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
