Eastbound Conrail freight waiting for clearance to depart from Clearing Yard. Chicago Illinois. December 1988.

I took this photograph, back in early December of 1988.

With dry, partly sunny and mild weather conditions on hand, I decided to spend an afternoon railfanning with my camera in hand at Hayford Junction alongthe Belt Railway of Chicago tracks at West 75th Street and South Central Park Avenue in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood.

An eastbound Conrail freight train waits for radio dispatch clearance to depart from the nearby BRC Clearing Yard, while a jet plane approaches for a landing at the nearby Chicago Midway Airport. In the background is the South Pulaski Road overpass bridge near Richard J. Daley College.
