Construction of the CTA orange line rapid transit to Midway Airport. Chicago Illinois. May 1990.

I took this photograph way back in May of 1990.

An eastbound slow moving Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad switching local, passes through the construction site of the future Chicago Transit Authority's orange line rapid transit project to Midway Airport.

The train is viewed approaching the railroad crossing at South Lawndale Avenue at approximately West 49th Street, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood on a lovely springtime evening around sunset. This IHB local, is traveling over the single tracked and very heavilly ballasted branchline owned by the Belt Railway of Chicago.
