A former G,M & O locomotive acquired through merger, leads a 1970's era Illinois Central Gulf train over the Missisippi River. The Oak Park Society of Model Engineers,H.o Scale Model Railroad Club. Oak Park Illinois. October 2013.

I fondly if not somewhat vaguely remember the early 1972 era or early years of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad from my own childhood.

I was only 10 years old when the Illinois Central and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroads had merged on August 10th, 1972, thus creating the Illinois Central Gulf R R.

My train shown here at the Oak Park Society of Model Engineers,H.O Scale Model Railroad Club, represents one of the early ICG trains, with an unrepainted late 1960's era former G,M & O locomotive leading one of the freight trains over the Missisippi River during the early years.
