I spotted this photo at My link Page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.

One of My all time favorite railroads that had served Chicago prior to 1970, was the old Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad.

The C,B & Q...or as some railfans called it the "Q", was a large railroad that served the midwest. The Burlington's subsidiary railroads Colorado & Southern, and the Fort Worth & Denver...served the States of Colorado and Texas.

The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy introduced streamlined stainless steel passenger train service in 1934, with an early shovel nosed streamliner train known as The Pioneer Zephyr. This train is preserved today at The Chicago Museum Of Science And Industry.

Like many North American Railroads, the C,B & Q wanted to rapidly modernize and dieselize their trains after World War 2 had ended. Although Post War modernization did take effect, the C,B & Q would also wind up being one of the last North American mainline railroads to use steam locomotives in daily operations. This lasted until the late 1950's. The Burlington also had ran many fantrip mainline steam locomotive powered excursions between 1955 and 1966. The C,B & Q also preserved several steam locomotives, donating them to many on line communities like Galesburg Illinois and Burlington Iowa at the end of the steam era.

The locomotive seen here, is a 1950's era EMD model GP 7 roadswitcher, painted in the Burlington's original "Blackbird" color scheme. This color scheme was replaced during the 1960's, with a bright red and gray color scheme with white stripes. This photo was taken at La Salle Illinois in 1962.

On March 2nd, 1970...The Chicagop, Burlington & Quincy, The Great Northern, The Northern Pacific, and The Spokane, Portland & Seatle Railroads merged and became the Burlington Northern Railroad.

Life before todays Lunchroom Diner at The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. 1995.

One of My all time favorite places I have enjoyed visiting since 1974, is The Illinois Railway Museum, located in the town of Union Illinois.
Over the years, I have seen this wonderful museum grow by leaps and bounds.

I took this photo during a 1995 visit to The Illinois Railway Museum.

Seen here, is a recently acquired vintage and very retro roadside diner restaurant. Snackbar food concession stand accomodations back then at the museum, was a tiny little wooden building with a walk up window, at the Central Avenue trolley loop station with picnic tables and soda vending machines.

Plans were in the works utilizing this old diner building, as part of a larger museum lunchroom diner building with full service amenities.
There was much work to be done in 1995 as evidenced by the deteriorated condition of this diner building, but the end reult today really stands out in a very positive way for visiting museum patrons.

I was greatly impressed by the larger and very tidy lunchroom diner building during My Friday, July 3rd, 2009 visit. The Illinois Railway Museum has indeed come a long way from it's somewhat primative
past.

The menu at Baci Pizzeria at 3235 North Harlem Avenue. ChicagoIllinois. Thursday, November 4th, 2010.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

When the subject of Chicago comes up in conversation, many people who either live in the area or have come to visit...often mention the really good variety of food here in the windy city.

Italian style fast food has always been a popular topic.

One of My personal favorites I enjoy getting take out food from, or occasionally dining in at....is the small, comfortable and very homestyle Baci Jumbo Slice Pizzeria at 3225 North Harlem Avenue in Chicago's Mont Clare neighborhood..

This flavorful and inexpensive little take out place, is what I crave occasionally.

More information on this Baci Jumbo Slice Pizzeria location can be found to the right of Your computer screen at My Links pages.

If You do stop here, please tell Pat the owner that "Eddie sent You".

He is My Paisano always.

Thanks.

The recently closed Arby's Roast Beef restaurant at 3931 North HarlemAvenue. Chicago Illinois. Thursday, January 6th, 2011.

I took this photo yesterday during My morning lunch break.

Hard economic times are present all over the greater Chicagoland area these days. After many years in operation, the Arby's Roast Beef fast food restaurant located at 3931 North Harlem Avenue near the Harlem Irving Plaza Shopping Center....recently closed it's doors for good at this location in December of 2010.

Several Arby's locations around the greater Chicagoland area have closed in the past few years. The locations include...the Franklin Park store on Grand Avenue, the Berwyn store on North Harlem Avenue, and the Chicago store located across South Harlem Avenue across the street from Summit Illinois.

Is Arby's going to be leaving the greater Chicagoland area?

Gee, I certainly hope not.

Mister K's Restaurant on North Harlem Avenue in Chicago Illinois demolished in late 2010. New Auto Zone store being constructed on site in January of 2011.

I took this photo a few years ago, back in September of 2008.

For many northwest side Chicagoans familiar with the area near the intersection of North Harlem and West Higgins Avenues...The long standing Mister K's family restaurant along the east side of Harlem Avenue has been demolished.

I only ate at Mister K's just once after work one evening, back in April of 2009. Business was very slow, and I was their only customer at the time. They closed for the night around the time I went to pay My restaurant check.

Mister K's closed I believe, during the Spring of 2010.
building was demolished in late November and early
December of 2010.

A new Auto Zone store is currently under construction at
the former Mister K's Restaurant site in January of 2011.

Thanks.

Sanitation Department workers from the west suburban vilage
of Oak Park Illinois, are viewed working a curbside collection
route along West Chicago Avenue near the intersection at Harlem.

The truck is a small GMC side loading garbage truck owned by
the Village of Oak Park Illinois.

Being a local Chicago area railfan Myself, there is nothing quiete as
exciting...like finding an old photo from decades ago photographed at
a place I have come to know and enjoy hanging out at today.

Hawthorne Junction, located at the Chicago city limits border by Cicero
Illinois, has appeared numerous times here at Eddie's Railfan Page in
past postings.

I found this extremely "Rare" steam era photograph taken at Hawthorne Junction,
at My link page Yesteryear Depot to the right of Your computer screen.

It is a sunny October 14th, 1938 day.
An 0-8-0 steam locomotive switcher from the Illinois Central's own Chicago
subsidiary shortline railroad Chicago & Illinois Western, is viewed working
at the small yard east of the Hawthorne Junction crosstracks, on the Chicago
side of the city limits border.

I have been to Hawthorne Junction numerous times in recent years, and have
always wondered what this place must have been like back in the steam era.

Thank You Yestreryear Depot!

Northbound Canadian Pacific freight train. Northbrook Illinois USA. Feb...

I photographed this digital live sound video last year, in February of 2010.

A northbound Canadian Pacific freight train, is viewed approaching and crossing Techny Road in north suburban Northbrook Illinois during an overcast winter morning.

The train is viewed interchanging of of the Union Pacific freight only "Techny Line", and is entering on to the former Milwaukee Road northline.

Aside from My obvious "Train" interests, one transportation subject matter that I have always found to be fascinating, are the old steam powered paddle wheel river boats of decades past.

During 1977 and 1978, I rode aboard the sternwheel steamboat Natchez in the city of New Orleans Louisianna. with the three large steam whistles blowing at the dock and the steam powered Caliope on the roof, this was a fun voyage along the Missisppi River.

Although I have been to Louisville Kentucky a few times over the years, I have never had the opportunity to ride aboard the Belle Of Louisville sternwheel steam boat, wich was built in the year of 1914. I hopeto ride this boat someday eventually.

I found this photo at My link page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.

This photo is listed as being taken at Dolton Illinois, on September 27th, 1975.
The locomotive is Louisville & Nashville Railroad EMD GP 7 roadswitcher # 408.

One railroad color scheme and corporate logo that I had come to enjoy when I was growing up during the 1970's, was that of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad.

Between 1973 and 1975, My family and I had made three summer vacation trips to Florida aboard the Amtrak Floridian. I could remeber seeing many L & N freight trains as We passed through the states of Kentucky and Tennesee. Their unique gray, yellow and red color scheme was quiete striking to Me.

Many years and many mergers later, today the old L & N is now known as CSX Transportation Company.

It is the last day of the operating season at The Hesston Steam Museum, located in northwestern Indiana.

I stood at this lineside location in 45 degree weather with a light sporadic drizzle, I was very cold and wet outside that day, but this photo and the kind crew of the museum's Flying Dutchman Railroad made it all worth while.

I took this photo one evening after work last month, just before the Christmas Holiday.

One of the nicest gasoline / convenience gasoline stations I have come to know, is the large Citgo / Minuteman station in near northwest suburban River Grove Illinois.

The people who work here, are some of the kindest I have met anywhere. Me and My lovely wife Cheryl both enjoy stopping here.
