The Chicago Botanic Garden. Glencoe Illinois USA. Wednsday, September 15th, 2010.

An unusual type of bus, are these motor trams used at places like Chicago's Brookfield Zoo, and of course...the example shown here at The Chicago Botanic Garden in north suburban Glencoe Illinois.

They provide an open air leisurely form of shuttle transportation for traveling distances that are normally vast for the average walker.

Motor Trams are relatively simple affairs usually consisting of a modeified Ford Econoline series van, and some hitched up open bench trailer cars. Air brakes are required for safety and good stoping capabilities. Some of these motor tram vechicles even operate using compressed natural gas.
