For a person like Myself and a few others out there...It's almost hard to believe that Amtrak had just celebrated their 40th anniversary on May 1st, 2011.

I can still recall seeing images like this one as a kid back then, of the early Amtrak trains with all that big mix of cars and engines, wearing the color schemes and markings of the railroads that had just previously operated their own passenger trains.

The first few years of Amtrak operations, is often refered to as Amtrak's "Rainbow Era" because of all of this variety. Standardization, would not be too far away.
