The Isabella Street CTA Purple line railroad crossing. Wilmette Illinois. July 2010., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
One very scenic railfan photo location I occasionally enjoy hanging out at, is the Chicago Transit Authority's Purple line railroad crossing on Isabella Street in north suburban Wilmette Illinois.
Summertime is especially beautiful with the many lush green trees and local wildlife that can show up at most any given time.
Prior to 1955, the Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee Railroad's electric interurban trains passed this crossing, on what was their Shore Line route. This line from Linden Avenue terminal in Wilmette to downtown Chicago, was known as the CTA Evanston Line prior to 1993, when the CTA began color coding their rapid transit routes.
