A former Chicago, South Shore And South Bend Railroad caboose decayingon a park display train. Hammond Indiana. Sunday, April 21st, 2013.

A local and sometimes forgotten display of historic antique railroad equipment, is this display train in a local city park, in Hammond Indiana.

Set aside for historic preservation here many years ago, is Nickle Plate Road 2-8- 2 Baldwin steam locomotive # 624, an old refrigerator car, and a bay window caboose from the Chicago, South Shore And South Bend Railroad.

This park display located just west of the Hammond Civic Center building, is in really sad shape. There has been much rust and decay, plus the caboose is actually missing it's roof.

It would be nice if some sort of a local historical group, could raise the money for a cosmetic restoration, and perhaps erect a roof over the equipment to better protect it from the elements.

Otherwise...this collection is a step or two away from being scrapped on site.
