The former Illinois Central Railroad, has made it in to preservation at various railroad museums around the nation.

This old steel steam era Illinois Central side door caboose, has been preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum, and restored to it's original pre 1967 Illinois Central red color scheme. It is occasionally used on the museum's caboose trains.
