A Niles Public Services Dodge utility truck at the site of a water main break. Niles Illinois. Late January 2014.

I took this photograph one day late last month, in northwest suburban Niles Illinois.

One chronic problem faced by most of the Chicago area's own suburban municipalities during the harsh winter of 2014, is frequent water main pipe breaks below the surface of many city streets.

With frequent heavy lake effect snowstorms, several days of freezing single digit and below zero temperatures, and a few short lived thaw cycles tossed in there "Somewhere"...the local municipal infrastructure has been taking a serious beating this year.

This crew from the Niles Public Services Company, is viewed at the site of a local water main break near Harlem Avenue and Oakton Street, in late January of 2014.

Notice the heavy and very dusty road salt dust on Harlem Avenue in this photograph.

Hurry Springtime!

Thanks.
Eddie k.
