Canadian Natiocovered hopper with Chicago Central reporting marks. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois. June 2008.

I spotted this new or recently painted Canadian National covered hopper car with Chicago Central reporting marks passing through Hawthorne Junction one hot summer afternoon, back in June of 2008.

The C C or the railroad that was better known as the Chicago, Central & Pacific, was a midwest regional railroad that was created from the 1985 seeling or "Spin Off", of the Illinois Central Gulf railroad's Iowa Division Mainline from Chicago to Waterloo Iowa.

The financially challenged ICG, was in the process of reorganization during the mid 1980's, and was selling off several former pre 1972 lines from the former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio, and a few of the former Illinos Central lines as well.

The Chicago, Central & Pacific existed from 1985, until the reorganized and now operating under it's original name "Illinois Central", bought this route back for it's own in 1996.

During 1999, the Canadian National bought out the Illinois Central through merger. Some CN cars today carry Illinois Central / IC or Chicago Central / C C reporting marks today.
