A caboose hop with a former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad EMDroadswitcher, departs from the now closed Grand Trunk Western RailroadElsdon Yard site. Chicago Illinois. June 1984.

Hi everyone!

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page, from the city of Chicago Illinois USA.
I took this photograph way back in June of 1984.

We are at the site of the recently closed Grand trunk Western Railroad's Elsdon Yard on the southwest side of Chicago. The GTW had just closed Elsdon Yard the previous October in 1983. Somehow..there was still a tiny bit of activity to be seen here until September of 1986, when the yard site was redeveloped in to a railroad owned construction and maintenance materials supply depot.

We are facing south, just north of adjacent West 51st Street. A southbound GTW caboose hop featuring a former Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad EMD roadswitcher acquired through merger in 1981, is viewed leaving the abandoned Elsdon Yard site on a hot and hazy summer afternoon.
