Sunrise in Wilmette Illinois. Early April 2010.

Sunrise in Wilmette Illinois. Early April 2010.

I took this photo recently around sunrise, in north suburban Wilmette Illinois.

An eastbound Pace bus, is viewed heading in to the morning sunrise on Central Avenue.
The village of Wilmette, seemed like it was just waking up at the time of My visit.
Except for a local Starbucks and of course a coffee concession stand inside the nearby Wilmette Metra commuter rail station, none of the local businesses were open just yet.

Interior front stairway view looking down inside First Transit 2008 Ford paratransit bus # 5157. Glenview Illinois. Late February 2010.

I took this photo at work one morning recently, in late February of 2010.

Being employed as a Paratransit Driver, gives Me the unique opportunity to share some behind the scenes views from My job.
I was performing My "Mandatory Pre Trip Vechicle Inspection" prior to the start of My very busy handicapped bus route.

This view is facing down toward the entry stairway of bus # 5157, wich is a 2008 Ford paratransit bus that I really enjoy driving. This is a good working machine
with smooth riding qualities.

International school bus. Elmwood Park Illinois. Sunday afternoon, March 14th 2010.

I took this photo recently while taking a much deserved Sunday afternoon walk, in near northwest suburban Elmwood Park Illinois.

A freshly painted or even brand new International school bus, is seen at the intersection of Grand and 75th Avenues. Just about 4 blocks or so to the west, an eastbound and very lenghty Canadian Pacific Railroad freight train is occupying the Grand Avenue railroad crossing. As You can see, the westbound traffic is now backing up.

1970's era Green Bus Lines GMC fishbowl windshield bus. New York City USA.

New York City Transit Authority 1970's era GMC "New Look" Fishbowl windshield bus.

I found this New York City transit bus photo on the internet recently.

Wearing a very unique and tastefuly colorful image, this 1970's era General Motors fishbowl windshield bus, is seen working for a local transit company known as Green Bus Lines.

If anyone has any information about the old Green Bus Lines in the New York City area and what parts of the Big Apple did it serve...I would really appreciate the information when possible. Are they still in business?

Love that color scheme!

Thanks.

I found this photo just recently on the internet, and thought that it also deserved a place at Eddie's Railfan Page.

Fifth Avenue Coach Lines # 3100, is a preserved 1958 vintage General Motors old look TDH series 40 foot transit bus from New York City. This old look GM bus is a one of a kind model with an experimental air conditioning unit on the rear roof.

To My knowledge, this bus is preserved at The New York City Transit Museum in the burrow of Brooklyn / New York City.

This General Motors transit bus is quiete simular to the NYC bus that the late great Jackie Gleason posed for a publicity photo in with the cast from the 1950's era TV show, "The Honeymooners".

I spotted this somewhat "Cute" looking tiny Chevrolet van style school bus one day after work, and just couldn't resist the temptation to photograph it.

Parked one block west of the First Transit garage in north suburban Glenview Illinois, this bus is found to be parked at a nearby "Safety Lane" commercial vechicle inspection garage. This bus is very small but quiete unique nonetheless.

Sweeping North 74th Court in Elmwood Park Illinois. June 2009.

I took this photo on a Monday morning back in June of 2009.

A sweeping machine operator from the Village of Elomwood Park Department of Public Works, is viewed mking His mandatory Monday sweeping rounds along the west side of North 74th Court. On Tuesdays....the east side of North 74th Court gets a good going over from the sweeping crew and occasionally other street maintenance personel.

During the wintertime when there is snow and ice on the ground, this very same Monday and Tuesday schedule is utilized for snow plowing and removal operations.

A very special Thank You to the many hard working crews from the Village of Elmwood Park Illinois for a job well done and appreciated.

Thanks.

This historic 1960's era photograph, comes to Eddie's Railfan Page via the website "Dave's Electric Railroads". (This is a really cool page to log on to.)

Seen here at what appears to be a rush hour commuting period in downtown Detroit Michigan, is a busy pedestrian and traffic image of Detroit Department of Street Railways PCC Electric streetcar # 123 at some point in time during the 1950's.

The Detroit department of Street Railways phased out electric streetcar operations in April of 1956, and later electric trolleybus operations during the year of 1962.

I took this photo on a lovely Sunday afternoon back in May of 2008.

It's hard to believe that it has actually beem 11 years now, since Conrail became a fallen flag railroad through merger.

Conrail was absorbed in a two way split merger in 1999 between the railroad companys of CSX Transportation Company, and the Norfolk Southern Railroad. The nice thing about railfanning is, occasionly still being able to find un reletterd equipment still rolling around on freight trains for several years after the fact.

The Riverside Illinois Metra commuter rail station. Sunday afternoon, April 4th 2010.

One of My personal all time favorite places I enjoy visiting on My railfan photo outings, is the old steam era former Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad train station in west suburban Riverside Illinois.

Riverside is a pleasant and upscale town from the late 1800's era, and has maintained much of it's victorian era charm architecturaly today. It is a great place to photograph mainline action....provided that You are there at the right time of course. It is a busy Chicagoland railroad artery nonetheless.

Hello everyone!

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

I took this photo in traffic on My way home to My own lunch break recently.

Two City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation garbage collection crews, are viewed pulling over just across the street from a local fast food restaurant.
Once again, it is lunch time for these two dedicated and very hungry city work crews.

A favorite old railfan haunt of Mine I had discovered while I attended Chicago's Curie High School from 1977 to 1981, was the classic old Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard.

I found this photo on the internet at My links page Fallen Flags. Org to the right of Your computer screen.

Seen here idling near the west end of the ready tracks at the Grand Trunk Western locmotive roundhouse and servicing terminal just north of West 51st Street, is Grand Trunk Western EMD SW 1200 yard switcher # 1514 in slightly weatherbeaten early 1970's GTW livery.

The GTW closed Elsdon Yard in October of 1983, and the property is slowly being redeveloped 20 something years after the fact.

I took this photo one pleasant summer afternoon back in June of 2008.

Seen here coupled on to a southbound Canadian National freight train, is a "New" Canadian National Railroad covered hopper car with reporting marks representing the fallen flag regional railroad "Chicago, Central & Pacific".

The former Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, was financially broke by the early to mid 1980's...and decided to sell off some of their lines in the process of reorganizing and cost effective downsizing. The Chicago, Central & Pacific, was created in 1985 with the sale of the former ICG Iowa Division Mainline from Chicago to Waterloo Iowa.

Eleven years later 1n 19996, the now reorganized and doing much better Illinois Central bought out the C,C & P and merged it in to their own system, and once again owning the old Iowa, Division Mainline in the process.

The Canadian National bought out the Illinois Central and absorbed it through merger in the year of 1999.

Hello once again everybody!

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

Aaaahhhh yes. Once again, it is Springtime here in the greater Chicagoland area.
I took this photo on the south wall of the Village of Elmwood Park Department of Parks and Recreation building inside the Conti Parkway Circle. Our local scenery is now changing from the plain straw browns of wintertime , in to the bright green hues of Springtime. These flowers were in the process of blooming when I took this photo on an absolutely beautiful Springtime morning.

Historic Photo! An Illinois Central Gulf train passing through Bloomington Illinois. 1981.

Illinois Central Gulf. Bloomington Illinois 1981.

Growing up in a big railroad town like Chicago....I always enjoy historic railroad photos of long gone fallen flag historic railroads.

I found this photo on the internet at My links page Fallen Flags. Org to the right of Your computer screen.

The year of this photo is 1981, and the Illinois Central Gulf is in it;s last decade before being reorganized and downsized by the mid 1980's. The Illinois Central Gulf was created by the October 1972 merger of the Illinois Central, and the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroads. It wasn't very profitable in the long and short run unfortunately.

A freight train from the Illinois Central Gulf with several borrowed or leased 1050's era EMD 1st generation model GP-9 roadswitchers, is viewed passing through Bloomington Illinois during possibly the late Winter, Early Spring or even Late Autum.

Whenever it was....It definately looks like it could have been "Chilly" outside.

Enjoying a bite to eat after work at Nick's Drive In. Chicago Illinois USA. September 2008.

Nick's Drive In. Chicago Illinois. September 2008.

Hello everyone!

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

Sometimes after work if I am really hungry or have the time and energy to do it, I occasionally enjoy stopping for some delicious and inexpensive fast food.

Seen here on the west side of North Harlem Avenue on the "Chicago" side of the city limits border just acrross the street from north suburban Niles Illinois, is a pleasant Greek owned fast food establishment I have come to know as "Nick's Drive In".

Nicks is located on the west side of North Harlem Avenue, just north of the intersection of Harlem and Touhy Avenues. The food is pretty good here and the prices are within reason by all means. The Grecian Gyros and the Cheeseburgers are good, but My personal favorite here is the Chilli.

Blame it on My southside Chicago roots, but I just can't resist having an occasional bowl of Chilli with a Tamale in it. Southsiders like Myself and a few others often refer to these as a "Tamale Boat". Mmmmm!

I always enjoy stopping here on occasion on My way home from work. I pass it everyday in traffic anyway.

Greetings from Chicago!

Eddie K.

I photographed this digital live sound video after work on the evening of Tuesday, March 30th 2010.

We are on location at the Metra / Lake Cook Road commuter rail station in far north suburban Derfield Illinois. I was preparing to get in to My car and head home for the night after spending nearly an hour of quaility time railfanning the former Milwaukee Road north line at the station.

Just as I was about to enter My car upon opening the driver side door, The train stations public address loud speaker was announcing the arrival of an outbound Metra train from Chicago. Soon I heard the noise and photographed this digital movie of an extra heavy Metra local arriving at Lake Cook Road behind two locomotives.

This would be the last train I would photograph during this evening rush hour, as the sun would soon be setting, and I had a long ride home.

It was a pleasant visit.

This photo is very special to Me.

Seeing these two former Illinois Central EMD heavy duty roadswitchers on the head end of this westbound Canadian National freight train, was just like old times again prior to the CN merger and takeover in 1999.

I took this photo after work one summer afternoon back in June of 2007. This Canadian National freight train is viewed waiting on a hold order at the west end of the former Illinois Central Crawford Yard just east of Hawthorne Junction.

There were many north and southbound transfer trains dispatched on to the Belt Railway of Chicago tracks at Hawthorne Junction along the city limits border at west suburban Cicero Illinois at the time of My visit. Once the crosstracks were cleared, this freight train departed Crawford Yard and headed westbound over the former Illinois Central Railroad's Iowa Division Mainline.

I recently spotted this photo on the internet from New York City along with several other really nice ones from the "Big Apple", but I can't remember the name of the website. (Thank goodness I had copied several photos from it first.)

I have never visited New York City before, but I hope to do so eventually.

This photo appears to have been taken at some point in time, during the late 1960's or early 1970's in New York City. The GMC "New Look" fishbowl windshield transit bus, was futuristic in design when it was introduced in the year of 1959. I grew up
riding the Chicago Transit Authority's GMC buses like this , until they were retired in 1996.

Toward the buse's roofline, We see horizontal lenghthwise advertising panels. These panels were affectionately nicknamed "Bat Wings". I vaguely remember seeing a few CTA buses like this during the 1960's in Chicago, that also had "Batwing Panels"..but somehow, they just didn't catch on here in the windy city.

Still, this is a nice photo from New York City nonetheless.

If anyone can identify this photo location, I would really like to know where it was taken. Brooklyn? Manhattan?

First Transit 2009 short Ford paratransit bus # 5705. Glenview Illinois USA. Late February 2010.

First Transit 2009 Ford short paratransit bus # 5705 parked outside the Glenview Illinois garage. Late February 2010.

I took this photo at work one really foggy morning in late February of 2010.

One of My company's newer but quiete "Smaller" Ford paratransit buses # 5705, is viewed parked outside of the Glenview garage in very dense fog. The entire Chicago area was under a severe dense fog advisory from the National Weather Service at the time of this photo.

It would take a lot more than zero visibilty conditions to stop the dedicated paratransit drivers here at First Transit, from performing their work above and beyond the call of duty.

Backbeat Tours chartered sightseeing bus. Memphis Tennesee USA. September 2007.

I took this photo during My September 2007 vacation to the city of Memphis Tennesee.

Memphis is a city, with a rich music history to it's name.
When You think of the many notable recording artists that became famous in the city of Memphis like Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wilson Pickett, Isaac Hayes, B.B King and numerous more...."Backbeat Tours" really seems to be a good choice for a tour company name in a rock and roll city like Memphis Tennesee.

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

A Village of Morton Grove Department of Public Works Elgin street sweeper vechicle, is viewed heading northwest on the diagonal Shermer Road near the intersection of Harlem Avenue.

The village of Morton Grove takes great pride in it's program to maintain the various roads and infrastructure in this pleasant residential community.

Nice work Morton Grove.
Thank You for a job well done.

Grand Trunk Western and Milwaukee Road diesels at the GTW Elsdon Yard site. Chicago Illinois USA. Early April 1985.

Grand Trunk Western and Milwaukee Road locomotives at GTW Elsdon Yard site. Chicago Illinois. Early April 1985,

I took this photo looking north from adjacent West 51st Street, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood way back in early April of 1985.

EMD diesel electric locomotives from the Grand Trunk Western and the Milwaukee Road railroads, are viewed idling on the curve just north of West 51st Street, alongside the temporary yard office east of South Lawndale Avenue.

The GTW Elsdon Yard had closed as a switching yard and locomotive terminal back in October of 1983. For a few years after the fact until September of 1986, this little "Fraction" of the former Elsdon Yard site, was used as a crew terminal.

At the time of this photo, the bankrupt Milwaukee Road was courting the opportunity of a merger with the Grand Trunk Western, but it did not materialize. The same year, the Milwaukee Road was bought out through merger by the Soo Line Railroad.
