Preserved Southern Pacific steam locomotive # 4449 on display. Franklin Park Illinois. Saturday, August 1st 2009.

I took this photo during a rainy Saturday, August 1st 2009 visit, to northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois USA.

A special visitor that was on dispaly near the preserved historic Tower B 12 exhibit, was preserved Southern Pacific Railroad GS 4 Class "Daylight" passenger steam locomotive # 4449.

This locomotive, was built by the Lima Locomotive Works of Lima Ohio in April of 1941, and spent it's first decade hauling the Southern Pacific "Coast Daylight" passenger trains in California.

This is the only preserved GS 4 locomotive from the Southern Pacific in existance, and best of all...it actually operates and hauls mainline steam excursions today.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
