Chicago Ridge Tower. (Gone-Demolished) Chicago Ridge Illinois. October 1989., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph way back in October of 1989.
One of my favorite places that I would occasionally go on location to do some railfanning with my camera in hand during the 1980's, was a place in Chicago's southwest suburbs known as Chicago Ridge Junction.
Chicago Ridge Junction was located just east of South Ridgeland Avenue near West 103rd Street, in the town of Chicago Ridge Illinois just west of Oak Lawn.
Here the north and south Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad mainline, crossed the Norfolk Southern -Metra ex Wabash Railroad mainline.
The Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad closed Chicago Ridge Tower in 1993, and eventually demolished it in 1995 after several arson fires were set inside the abandoned structure.
Most of the trains traveling through the junction, were on the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad trackage.
Thanks.
