Historic photo! Chicago Motor Coach Company GMC 35 foot transit bus #3869 passing Chicago Union Station. Chicago Illinois. October 1953., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
Eddie will be hosting a multi media musical photo slideshow, video and lecture presentation, about the early years of today's Chicago Transit Authority.
From the begining of operations on October 1st, 1947 upon the merger and acquisition of the Chicago Surface Lines, and the Chicago Rapid Transit companies, to the 1952 acquisition of the Chicago Motor Coach Company...the early CTA roster of equipment included electric streetcars, old rapid transit equipment dating back to the 1920's and earlier, old gasoline powered transit buses, as well as electric trolleybuses, propane and diesel fueled buses. It was a unique and very less than standard collection of public transportation vehicles in the windy city after the end of World War 2.
See Chicago as it used to be.
