The engine servicing area at Chicago's NorthWestern Station. Chicago Illinois. January 1984., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph way back in January of 1984.
Seen here idling at the locomotive servicing area at the soon to be demolished NorthWestern Station in downtown Chicago, is an EMD model F 40 PH diesel electric locomotive from Chicago's then RTA commuter rail service.
Today's Metra commuter Rail Service began operations not long after I had taken this photograph, and the old RTA color schemes from the 1970's would disappear by the late 1980's. NorthWestern Station which was built in 1911, was demolished during the summer months of June and July in 1984.
