The Eisenhower Public Library in Harwood Heights Illinois, welcomes local Chicago
historian, photographer and internet site host Edward Kwiatkowski to the library's
upstairs meeting room on Saturday, March 16th from 1:00 until 3:00 PM.
 
Eddie will be hosting a multi media musical photo slideshow, video and lecture presentation
about the early years of the Chicago Transit Authority from it's begining of operations on
October 1st, 1947, and the immediate years that followed in the wake of it all afterwards.
Also covered in this presentation through numerous vintage photographs, will be the once
popular and standard electric city streetcars from the predecessor company Chicago Surface
Lines, and the ancient rapid transit equipment acquired from the former Chicago Rapid Transit Company. See how commuting around the Windy City was like back in the days of old.
 
Transit buses ranging from old gasoline powered models, as well the electric trolley buses,
propane fueled models, and early diesel powered gems like the one that Jackie Gleason and
the 1950's cast of the TV show "The Honeymooners" posed in for a publicity photo, are also
covered in this presentation. See the evolution of modern public transportation in the city of
Chicago, set to historic authentic period music ranging from Ragtime Piano, Dixieland Jazz,
1940's era Big Band Standards, and early 1960's era modern Jazz music as well.
