BNSF Railway yard switching move passes the tower at Clyde Yard. Cicero Illinois. Early September 2007.

I took this photograph one afternoon back in early September of 2007.

We are at the Cicero station stop on the Metra / BNSF Railway three track Chicagho to Aurora Illinois mainline.

Just as they did during the steam era, freight trains have definately become longer and heavier. With the old EMD Sw series end cab switchers of past years now underpwered to pull the long strings of heavy freight cars, medium to sometimes large roadswitchers are now employed in heavy yard switching operations.

I spotted this BNSF Railway EMD roadswitcher, pulling a long and heavy cut of freight cars past the Clyde Yard east control tower during a back and forth switching move.
