Early 1970's era Illinois Central Gulf Railroad switching local. December 2011., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photo recently, at The Oak Park Society Of Model Engineers, H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.
Seen here is My early 1970's merger era Illinois Central Gulf Railroad switching local.
This almost looks like a real ICG switching local circa 1973, serving the once many factories on the southwest side of Chicago.
The locomotive is a Life Like Proto 2000 EMD SW 9 yard switcher, wearing the Illinois Central Railroad's pre 1967 color scheme. The orange Illinois Central 40 foot Hi Cube box car is an Athearn model, and is wearing the modernized post 1967 Illinois Central colors with the new "Split Rail" logo.
The Illinois Central Gulf, was created from the August 10th 1972 merger of the Illinois Central, and the Gulf, mobile & Ohio Railroads.
