The Central Electric Railfans Association fantrip on the "New" South Shore cars. South Bend Indiana USA. May 1983.

In May of 1983, I went on this chartered fantrip on the Chicago, South Shore & South Bend electric railroad. We are at the end of the line in South Bend Indiana. The South Shore had recently retired their aging fleet of orange heavy weight 1920's era equipment, and had replaced them with these "New" lightweight cars built in Japan by the Nippon Shaiyro Corporation.
The little blue prefab Bendix Road station also served Amtrak trains at the time of this photo. Today, the South Shore trains now terminate at the Michiana regional Airport in South Bend Indiana.
