Norfolk Southern RR freight train on the BNSF interchange. Mc.Cook Junction. Mc.Cook Illinois USA. Early May 2007.

I was waiting at the former A,T & S,F crosstracks at Mc.Cook Junction when I took this photo. Seen here one morning in May 2007, is a northbound Norfolk Southern / BNSF pool train negotiating the interchange curve that leads off the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad line. The train will proceed west to the BNSF Yard in nearby Willow Springs Illinois, or perhaps to points west. The large green hill in the background, is actually a garbage landfill. The BNSF Railway, and the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad cross over and interchange here at Mc.Cook junction near Lyons Illinois.

This was before my time but-There was a regular IHB job that brought a garbage train from the Stockyards. The cars were condemed gondolas and the rails were moved as the place filled up, it had been a quarry. One night several cars went over the end of track and the conductor was given demerits for not getting the car numbers!
