Chicago Surface Lines old Pulman electric streetcar # 236 working the Route # 52 Kedzie / California Avenue line. Chicago Illinois USA. Circa the early 1950's., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
Eddie will be hosting a multi media musical photo slideshow (Set to authentic historic period music) video and lecture presentation, about the early years of the Chicago Transit Authority begining in 1947.
The early years of today's Chicago Transit Authority, featured many pieces of second hand transit equipment acquired from the predecessor companies Chicago Surface Lines, and the Chicago Rapid Transit Company.
The equipment ranged from electric streetcars, gasoline powered transit buses, electric powered trolley buses, and 1920's era rapid transit equipment. New replacement equipment such as propane and diesel powered buses, new trolley buses, and lightweight rapid transit cars, would soon be making their debut in Chicago.
See this now lost era in Chicago public transportation as it was after World War 2 had ended through photographs, vintage home movie videos, and music from the era.
Admission is free!
