A soon to be retired Union Pacific EMD DD 40X Centenial locomotive # 6912 on a freight train passing through the state of Nebraska. June 1984.

I took this photograph looking out of a window aboard a motorcoach bus passing through the state of Nebrask, way back in June of 1984.

My Mother and Myself, were enjoying a motorcoach bus vacation tour to Yellowstone National Park via a company known as Mayflower Tours.

I took this photograph on the return leg of the trip enroute back to Chicago Illinois heading eastbound.

After many years in service, the Union Pacific Railroad's unique 1969 vintage EMD model D D 40X "Centenial"double diesel locomotives, were at the end of their service lives, and were rolling out their final miles in U.P revenue service in the year of 1984. With retirement in the very near future, locomotive # 6912, is viewed operating as a trailing unit on this westbound Union Pacific freight train passing through an unknown location in the state of Nebraska.

Luckilly, the Union Pacific actually set aside a handful of these for preservation. Engine # 6936, is used in Union Pacific company excursion specials.

Thanks.
