Preserved Chicago Surface Lines electric streetcar # 144. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. August 2006.

I took this photograph during an August 2006 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum, located in the town of Union Illinois. www.irm.org

Begining in 1908 when this electric city streetcar rolled out of the Pulman Standard Car Company until it's retirement from regular transit service in 1954, and finally it's second retirement from fantrip service in 1958...Chicago Surface Lines car # 144 served Chicago's transit riders very well for many years. After the succesor company Chicago Transit Authority phased out all remaining electric streetcar operations for good and replaced them with buses in June of 1958, CSL car # 144 was set aside for preservation, and would eventually transport passengers again at the Illinois Railway Museum.

CSL car # 144, is viewed operating on the museum's shuttle trolley loop.
