Chicago Transit Authority 1951 electric trolley bus. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. September 1982.

This is a CTA bus that served the city of Chicago from 1951 to 1973. The bus seen here is a preserved 1951 trolley coach from the Marmon Herrington Co.
This bus was from an order of 300 for the Chicago Transit Authority, and it would be the "Last" order for new CTA trolley buses. Around 1959, The CTA began to slowly phase out electric bus operations on some of the former streetcar routes that had been converted to twin overhead wire operations. The last operations for electric CTA trolleybuses took place on March 24th 1973.
I rode on and witnessed these unique electric buses during their final years of operation when I was growing up in Chicago, and I miss them.
