I took this photo last Wednsday on a hot Chicago afternoon. Seen here on Chicago's near northside at North western avenue and west hubbard street, is the Metra Western avenue station. This station is located on the former Milwaukee Road mainline. The former Chicago & NorthWestern mainline passes on the south adjacent to the station. This is a very busy location, as both railroad lines feature Metra coach yards to the near west at North California Avenue. There are many commuter trains coming and going here, as well as coachyard switching, and light equipment and engine moves to and from Chicago Union Station. In the 1960's CNW had The Potato and Onion Mart just to the south. All the potato brokers had Buicks with Idaho license plates.
