Indiana Harbor Belt industrial switching local. Melrose Park Illinois USA. October 2007.

I took this photo at West Armitage Street and Corning Avenue, in northwest suburban Melrose Park Illinois last October. The rarely seen IHB local that travels on an industrial spur track alongside Armitage Street, was captured on My digital camera during a chance encounter. The locomotive is pushing two covered hopper cars and an IHB transfer caboose westbound toward Manheim Road / U.S Route # 12 and # 45.

This line reaches the Navistar plant on Rt 45 in Melrose Park. It was a WWII defense plant Government built & owned) that built the B24 bomber engines. In the 1960's it was producing construction machinery and the loads were always required to get high/wide clearance on the IHB.
