Frank's Barber Shop on Grand Avenue. Elmwood Park Illinois USA. May 2011.

Hi everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page, from the city of Chicago Illinois USA.

I took this photo recently one evening.

A popular neighborhood icon in Chicago and many other citties and towns around the Nation, are the local Barber Shops.

Although there was a time when some of these were losing business during the late 1960's and in to the 1970's, as many young boys and men began wearing their hair long like the Rock and Roll music stars of the time, this popular icon has made quiete a come back in recent times.

Barber Shops are not all the same. Many have their own unique personality and charm. The Barber Shop I use to go to in south suburban Worth Illinois during the 1990's, featured an Italian American barber named Bob, who played guitar and accordian. He had the only barber shop I had ever seen a drum kit inside. Sometimes I would just go there to get together with Bob and "Jam" when He wasn't busy. Fun times indeed!

Some Barber Shops, are run by former Military barbers, while others feature the work of barbers and hairstylists working side by side. Some shops are even unisex.

The old neighborhod Barber Shop, either past or present, will always be a popular place in the neighborhood.

Notice the Elvis Presley photo in the window to the upper right of the photo, as He is getting His Military G.I haircut.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
