Today would have been Elvis Presley's 78th birthday, if He hadn't passed away at the age of 42
way back in August of 1977.
Elvis Presley was very impressed with this song, that was originally recorded by Tony Joe White
back in the year of 1969. Elvis recorded his own version, and was quite successful with it.

The Kig will always be The King, but Tony Joe White's original makes Elvis' drawl in this version sound almost amateurish by comparison. White released Polk Sald Annie when he was only 26 and his voice sounded well over twice that age, like it was straight off the plantation. Incredible.
But happy birthday to the King of Rock 'n' Roll! To think he would have been 78...amazing.
