Nothbound BNSF Railway light engine movement. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois. February 2007.

I took this photograph after work one evening around sunset, back in February of 2007.

The entire Chicago area was in the middle of a severe deep freeze condition, that featured several days of single digit temperatures, several nights of below zero temperatures, windchill advisories, and water main pipes bursting below Chicago's many city streets.

It was actually 8 degrees above zero with a sharp wind blowing in out of the west when I took this photograph of a light engine movement passing through Hawthorne Junction at the Chicago city limits border.

Two BNSF Railway diesel electric locomotives, are viewed heading northbound over the Belt Railway of Chicago tracks, and are returning to the nearby BNSF Railway Clyde Yard in the immediate neighboring west suburban town of Cicero Illinois.

I froze taking this photograph, but it was well worth it all that evening. No regrets for this Chicago area railfan. No way!

Thanks.
Eddie K.
