Westbound Norfolk Southern freight train entering the Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard facility. Chicago Illinois. April 1989., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph on a lovely Springtime afternoon, way back in April of 1989.
Looking west from on top of the South Pulaski Road bridge just north from Chicago's Richard J. Daley College, we see a westbound Norfolk Southern Railroad transfer train, entering the Belt Railway of Chicago's huge Clearing Yard facility.
Bringing up the rear of the train, is a former Norfolk & Western Railroad wide vision caboose. This cabose is still wearing the 1971 NW markings from the former Norfolk & Western Railroad. This photo is rare, because cabooses were disappearing from the rear end of many of Chicago's freight trains during the 1980's.
