Rand Red Hots. Des Plaines Illinois. Early January 2013.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois USA.

Many years ago, the greater Chicagoland area had many of these roadside drive in fast food restaurants during the 1950's and 60's era. Almost all of them were gone by the mid 1970's. West suburban Berwyn Illinois, had many of these along Ogden Avenue / Illinois Rt # 34 / Old U.S Rt # 66 back in the day.

Just last year, an old roadside 1950's era drive in that had long since discontinued serving anything resembling a hamburger and fries, and was last reported to be a used car dealership on Rand Road in Des Plaines Illinois, made a come back serving it's original purpose.

The gentleman who owns Bob O's Hot Dogs on West Irving Park Road in Chicago, purchased this old former roadside drive in restaurant last year, restored it, and reopened as the "New" and yet tastefully retro Rand Red Hots. Just as it is at Bob O's Hot Dogs...the french fries are fresh cut and delicious.

Sorry, no car hop service here. However there is a convenient drive thru window.

I took this photograph last night, on my way home from work. It is indeed a beautiful and welcomed sight for hungry motorists passing through northwest suburban Des Plaines Illinois.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
