Chicago's Brookfield Zoo train. Brookfield Illinois. September 1982.

I took this now historic photograph, way back in early September of 1982.

Believe it or not, Chicago's own Brookfield Zoo had once operated a two foot narrow guage railroad, that operated in a counter clockwise pattern around the outer perimeter of the zoo.

The Brookfield Zoo's railroad, was known as the Brookfield, Salt Creek & Western Railroad. This railroad operated at the Brookfield Zoo from May of 1967, until Labor Day weekend in early September of 1985.

Today, this equipment is preserved at the Hesston Steam Museum near Michigan City Indiana. www.hesston.org
