Eddie's Railfan Page celebrates 2nd Aniversary! Thank You fellow railfans everywhere!

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page 2nd Aniversary spectacular edition!
Yes it's true folks, Eddie's Railfan Page has officially been on the internet for two really wonderfull years now. I would like to extend a special thanks to all the railfans and non railfans alike, who have contributed to My blogsite with valuable information and stories about growing up around Chicago in these various neighborhoods I had photographed around town.
One of the "Most" talked about topics that have appeared numerous times over the course of two years, is the old Grand Trunk Western Railroad Elsdon Yard and Roundhouse on Chicago's southwest side. I took this photograph in October of 1983 on South Kedzie Avenue at west 49th Street. This was the Grand trunk western Railroad Elsdon Roundhouse built in 1914. This facility with a large steel girder turntable in the back, turned and serviced steam locomotives and later diesel locomotives. The yard and diesel roundhouse, was in it's last week of operation at the time of this photo.
The roundhouse would sit abandoned and forelorn untill it's demolition in 1987. Today this is the site of a retail strip mall.
This is how this area looked like ten years before the opening of the CTA Orange line to Chicago's Midway Airport.
Thanks everybody.
Eddie K.
