The former site of the Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Depot / Baca's Cook Shop and Bar on West 51st Street. Chicago Illinois USA. Late January 2007.

On Monday, Febuary 11th 2008, I did an anniversary photo feature on the former Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard here at Eddie's Railfan Page, as it was in it's final days during the early 1980's. Here is a follow up epilouge / update to those photos as to the state of Elsdon now.
I took this photo one morning, in late January of 2007 looking east on West 51st Street. This now vacant lot on the southside of West 51st Street, was the site of a local transient dive hotel and eatery known as Baca's Cook Shop and Bar. The area in the background where the tractor and trailer truck is parked, was the site of the wooden two story 1888 built Elsdon Station, wich was demolished in November of 1983 after the GTW Elsdon Yard had officially closed. The old Elsdon Yard site is currently being redeveloped into a large residential real estate developement. Out of view to the left, was the site of the large Grocerland Foods warehouse, wich had closed around 1979. New houses are currently being constructed on the Grocerland Foods warehouse site, and soon will be in the former train yard.
