Southbound Grand Trunk Western Railroad freight train with a caboose rounding the interchange curve. Hayford Junction. Chicago Illinois. December 1988.

I took this photo during a December 1988 visit to Hayford Junction on the southwest side of Chicago.

A southbound Grand Trunk Western Railroad freight train, has just departed from the nearby Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard. Seen here, is the southbound GTW freight train on the interchange curve at Hayford Junction. Railroad cabooses wich were once a common sight on the rear of almost any given freight train, were now becoming a very rare sight by the mid to late 1980's.

This was one of the last times I would actually see one of these on the end of a long freight train.
