Construction of the CTA orange line rapid transit to Midway Airport. Chicago Illinois. January 1990., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph, way back in January of 1990.
We are facing east from the South Kostner Avenue railroad crossing near West 53rd Street, in Chicago's Archer Heights neighborhood near Midway Airport.
After a number of years involving planning and feasability studies, the Chicago Transit Authority's orange line rapid transit to Midway Airport is finally under construction. This rapid transit line, was originally proposed to be named as "The CTA Southwest Elevated Line". in 1993, the Chicago Transit Authority color coded all transit routes, and this line would thus become the orange line.
