A former Grand Trunk Western Railroad EMD roadswitcher working the CN Crawford Yard. Chicago Illinois. Early November 2007., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph one evening after work, back in early November of 2007.
A former Grand Trunk Western Railroad EMD roadswitcher acquired through merger in 1999 by the Canadian National Railroad, is viewed switching cars at the former Illinois Central Railroad's Crawford Yard, just east of west suburban Cicero Illinois.
Since I took this photograph, the CN closed Crawford Yard in 2011 and removed the tracks. The Commonwealth Edison Company's coal fired Crawford Generating Station power plant in the background, was closed by Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2012. Demolition work was begun recently on the striped smokestack to the right of the photograph.
