The abandoned Frosted Mug Drive In Restaurant. Alsip Illinois USA. June 2009.
The times are changing in south suburban Alsip Illinois.
A once very popular, fun, happy, lively and very happening Frosted Mug Drive In restaurant, located at West 116th Street and South Puaski Road...is viewed in a state of abandonment. Prior to the Autumm of 2007, this was one of the Chicago areas "Last" roadside 1950's and 1960's era Drive In restaurants with genuine "Car Hop Service"that was still in business.
The popular menu entrees like the Texas Burger , Pit Bar B Q Sandwich, and their Homemade Root Beer, are all just a recent memory now. A few years ago this place featured antique car shows and cruise nights. Many local familes and car enthusiasts would dine here. It was a friendly and nostalgic place.
The Frosted Mug was up for sale and on the market for a number of years in recent times. The restaurant closed for remodeling during the Autum of 2007. Some interior remodeling work was actually started, but sadly the abandoned restaurant is up for sale now.
