Amtrak changes their color scheme, circa 1977.

I found this photo recently on the internet.

America's national rail passenger service carrier known as Amtrak, began operations on May 1st, 1971. THe locomotives that are shown here, were Amtrak's newest locomotives built by EMD in the year of 1974.

To the left, We see two of these locomotives wearing the first, or what was known as the Amtrak Phase 1 color scheme introduced during 1971. Around 1976, Amtrak public relations felt that it was time for a colorful "New" image. The Amtrak Phase 2 color scheme wich was very American Bi Centenial looking with broad red and blue stripes against a Platinum background, lasted until approximately 1981.

This photo demonstrates Amtrak equipment and color schemes in transition circa 1977.
